Spring is starting out with a downpour. We have passed our record rainfall for March. Very reminicient of Cold Comfort Farm. If you have never seen that movie - it has a hilarious scene where everyone keeps slipping in the mud. The sheep and the dog don't seem to care about getting wet.
One new lamb was born on March 11th. As usual, I separated mom and baby from the other sheep. My rule is to keep them together so they can bond and keep the others, including the dog ,out. I partition a small area of the shed with hog panels, and this keeps the lamb safe, while the ewe can still socialize with the other sheep.
On day three, I bob the lamb's tail with an elasticizer. This does not hurt the lamb. I waited a week once, and that lamb had noticible discomfort.
This lamb, as yet unnamed, is now chasing the chickens and jumping for shear joy of living.
